Library's Cupcake Decorating Contest a Hit

ImageThe Monona (WI) Public Library held a Dewey Decimal System-themed cupcake decorating contest -- you can try it at your library too!

Participants were given 25 minutes to explore books in the library, then decorate a cupcake based on the inspiration they got from a book.

What do pastries and libraries have in common? Find out the connection at our first ever cupcake-decorating war (contest). We'll supply Cupcakes and Frosting for this National Library Week celebration - generously donated by Daisy Cafe & Cupcakery. Compete for great prizes, including gift certificates to Daisy Cafe and Cupcakery; no special frosting skills needed - we reward creativity! The surprise theme will be judged by a panel of Monona Library Lovers/Celebrities and headed by Deb Shapiro. Shapiro, baker and faculty member from the UW School of Library & Information Science, will also give a short talk about the rise of cupcake mania. This event is for adults and teens grades 6 and up.

Watch this 3-minute video to see how successful it was!
