Fundraising Program Idea: Antique Appraisal Event

ImageConsider hosting an Antique Appraisal Event for your next library fundraiser. A local presenter named Mark Moran has been conducting community events for libraries and historical societies throughout Wisconsin, Illinois, Iowa, Minnesota and Upper Michigan.  He's the author of more than 25 book on antiques & collectibles, has been a guest expert on the PBS series Antiques Roadshow, and is the former senior editor for antiques and collectibles books with Krause Publications in Iola, Wis.

... I can offer a morning, afternoon or evening of education and entertainment for a select group of attendees. I say "select" because a basic event would be limited to 40 objects. This allows for a forum that can be easily completed in three hours. I realize every library, historical society or other organization has different needs and guidelines they must follow. Some prefer to use a presenter's fee without charging their patrons or membership, but many take advantage of the revenue-sharing formula I use, which returns money to the event host. Some also partner with local organizations during other community events, or with their own "Friends" group in fund-raising.

Among the many libraries who have booked this program with Mr. Moran, included are 2 events scheduled in the Winnefox area:

  • June 23, 2012 — Coloma Public Library and the Coloma Area Historical Society, noon
  • Aug. 11, 2012 — Waushara County Historical Society, Wautoma,1 pm
