Christy Shannon Smirl asked PubLib folk for suggestions for simple ways for to use book donations for replacements and/or additional copies of popular titles. Her library's selectors "would like to find a better system for identifying and 'trapping' donations that we need for the collection. The hope is that these books might not so often go under our radar and just get sold for $1, while we purchase another new copy for $15." Here are the tips she received:
- [Publib] donated books: Linda Cannon says of the process used at her library, "So far this year (since Nov. 1), we have added $20K worth (list price) of donations. Last year, $34K, year before $36.5K."
- [Publib] donated books: GiGi Bayne suggests including front-line circ staff in the process
- [Publib] donated books: Cindy Hayes' library sorts donations into bins for selectors go through before they ever reach the Friends group
And as a followup, here are tips Cindy gathered regarding receipts for donations received.
